Calcium Carbonate
The nature of the material
Calcium carbonate ( CaCO3 ) is a white chemical compound that lacks taste and smell, It is a common material which can be founded in rock form all over the world, and it is the main component of limestone, marble, coral, calcite and chalk.
Calcium carbonate is used in most industries, Adhesives & Sealants, Coatings & Inks, Construction, Filtration & Life Sciences
Material extraction
Calcium carbonate is usually extracted by mining and quarrying, and it is found in nature in various forms such as (calcite, argonite, chalk and marble), Most of the quarries work to convert it into blocks, and some of them work to break down and purify the stone for the purpose of using it for various industrial purposes.
Increased utilization
As a result of the massive construction boom, the use of limestone increased in large quantities, as limestone is considered an essential raw material in the manufacture of cement and steel.
After the tremendous development in the petrochemical industries, calcium carbonate has become used in many industries such as the manufacture of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, glass, and in the manufacture of plastics, coatings, rubber and paper, as well as in medical purposes.
